A little bit of history
Have you seen the famous spanish TV serie THE PLAGUE?
“The plague” is a 6-episode fiction series broadcast by the Movistar + channel at the beginning of 2018. It is scripted by Rafael Cobos and directed by Alberto Rodríguez, director of well-known films such as “The Man with the Thousand Faces”, ” Marshland”or” Grupo 7 “.
Temporarily situated in the second half of the sixteenth century tells the development of a criminal investigation in the middle of a plague outbreak that ravages the Seville that was then the door of the Americas.
We write this text in the thread of a frame that we can find in that magnificent series and that touches us very closely. It is the image that this article illustrates.
In this scene you can see how the Guadalquivir River arrives wild in the Arenal area, forming an irregular shore since there was still no construction to close it.
This view is what we would have today if we placed ourselves on the Paseo de Colón in front of the Maestranza bullring, metro meters upstream.
We can see how the Torre del Oro (on the right), still without the top of the golden dome that we know today and that would not be built until 1760, joins the Torre de la Plata (on the left) through the wall that circled the city and defended it from possible enemy attacks.
Attached to the Torre de la Plata was the Postigo del Carbón, one of the entrances to the city, which was demolished in the second half of the 19th century.
If we traveled in time and appeared in the middle of the scene that represents the image, we could walk in a straight line and, crossing the wall like a ghost, we would end up situating ourselves in the vicinity of the place that today occupies Almirante Lobo street, corner with the Paseo de the delights. The exact point where our restaurant is located today.
For us it is wonderful to have an enclave with so much history.
